Sculptors holding joint exhibition in Nanaimo – Nanaimo News Bulletin

Two artists will present collaborative and individual works in a 10-day exhibition in the Harewood area of Nanaimo.

The exhibit, “Forms Encoded,” will be on view at Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio, 294 Harewood Rd., from April 22 through May 1.

“Joel Prevost and Darcy Johnson have had many years to develop their visual language and have discovered that their works overlap and draw inspiration from each other in many ways,” a statement for the exhibit noted.

Prevost, a classical sculptor of the human form, and Johnson, an abstract artist interested in the human spirit, each made specific designs and sculptures that respond to the work of the other.

“These collaborations refer to the changing human experience of ourselves and our contemporary environment. Both artists’ work expresses the ‘organic’ reconciling with the ‘synthetic’ as we collectively confront technology, consciousness and our relationship with other organisms,” the statement continued.

Six events will take place at the studio from the opening to the closing of the exhibition; the opening on April 22, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; ‘Meet the Artists at Work’ on April 24 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ‘Join Joel For Tea Time’ April 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.; ‘Soirée Musique Contemporaine Francophone’ on April 29 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; “Drawing and Sculpting with the Artists” on April 30 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.; and ‘Matinee Concert with Nico Rhodes’ on May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.
